The challenge

St Vincent’s Hospital in Toowoomba engaged NHP to upgrade its existing emergency lighting monitoring system as part of a planned transition away from a legacy Nexus installation. The site operated across multiple buildings with a mix of older technologies, creating an opportunity to modernise and simplify system management.

Working alongside SES Electrical, the site’s contracted service provider, NHP delivered the Nexus Pro solution to replace and upgrade 115 emergency lighting fittings. The project focused on improving visibility, accessibility, and long-term maintenance efficiency while minimising disruption within a live healthcare environment.

The hospital was operating a combination of legacy RF and wired LX systems. While the system remained compliant and fit for purpose, the mixed communication approach required additional coordination to manage fittings consistently across the site.

The key objective was to consolidate these systems into a single, unified platform to improve visibility, testing, and maintenance processes. As an active hospital, the installation also required careful planning to ensure minimal disruption to patients and staff.

The solution

Nexus Pro was implemented to deliver a fully wireless, centralised emergency lighting monitoring system across the site.

Key benefits for St Vincent’s included:

  • Centralised visibility of all fittings across multiple buildings
  • Simplified maintenance and fault identification
  • Scalable solution suited to large and distributed sites
  • Mobile app access for real-time monitoring and control

The project was delivered in close collaboration with SES Electrical, with NHP providing on-site support and hands-on commissioning guidance.

During onboarding, NHP specialists worked directly with the contractor team to demonstrate the commissioning process. Approximately 70 fittings were commissioned simply by using a smartphone and the Nexus Pro application.

Installation progressed smoothly, with no major challenges. The wireless architecture removed the need for complex cabling, supporting a faster and less intrusive upgrade process across the live hospital environment.

NHP continues to provide ongoing support, including site assistance and technical guidance as required.

The impact

Since implementing Nexus Pro, the site has seen a significant improvement in how emergency lighting is managed.

Key outcomes include:

  • Faster commissioning using the intuitive application
  • Improved fault visibility across all installed fittings
  • Confidence in compliance testing and reporting

Feedback from the contractor and site team has been highly positive, particularly compliance and time saving.

"Nexus Pro has given us greater visibility of the hospital’s emergency lighting system while simplifying compliance management, testing, and maintenance. The centralised monitoring and fault reporting help us identify issues faster, reduce manual effort, and maintain critical life-safety systems with minimal disruption to hospital operations."
