Graduate Opportunities

Meet Gabriele Pasturi - NHP's Graduate Product Engineer.

Q. How long have you been with NHP?
A. 3 years. I joined NHP in November 2004.

Q. What did you study at University?
A. I studied a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at Victoria University, majoring in Control Engineering and Power.

Q. Why did you choose a career with NHP?
A. I was attracted to NHP because it was a large organisation that operated around Australia and New Zealand and had good long term growth prospects.

Q. What’s your overall impression of NHP and the graduate role?
A. When you finish university you contemplate the direction of your future. The graduate program has exposed me to all facets of the business: products, engineering, projects and marketing and has helped me to decide which areas of the industry I would like to pursue. I have been given the responsibility for some major projects, but have found the support network through mentoring to be invaluable. NHP provides a welcoming, friendly and supportive work environment.

Q. What does your work involve?
A. At NHP I am able to use my expertise as an engineer and also develop skills in the commercial side of the business. As a Product Engineer for Hazardous Area Equipment (HAE), I am supporting the Product Manager in the development of the new HAE product line 'Stahl' and preparing for the official launch coming up. This involves setting up the certified HAE/ Stahl workshop at Laverton, creating and entering part numbers into a database, organising marketing aids, quoting and estimating, general day-to-day liaising with customers and dealing with technical and commercial inquiries. As Hazardous Area Equipment is such a specialised industry this also includes customer visits with our sales representatives.

Q. Describe your graduate learning experience at NHP.
A. As I came in with a technical background, my time at NHP has improved my commercial acumen as I have been exposed to that side of the business more than I expected.

Q. What is the best thing about working at NHP?
A. For a large company, internally we still have a small company feel.

NHP have over 60 supply partners from all over the world, so another great thing about working here is you get to travel. I recently had the opportunity to travel to Germany for 3 weeks of intensive training on the ELCAD design program, which was a great thrill. I was also lucky enough to enjoy some extra leisure days to explore the area.

Q. What would you say to others contemplating a graduate role at NHP?
A. NHP is a great company to start your career with as it exposes you to many different areas of the Electrical Engineering & Switchgear business. The graduate program is a tailored and structured program that allows you to achieve outstanding professional proficiency in your chosen field and allows you to develop your skills in business and management.
